Ceramic House, 2003-2006, Jinhua, China / Wang Shu
I know absolutely nothing about architecture but the philosophy that Wang Shu puts towards his work is something special in modern China and I thought it worth pointing out. He makes it clear that traditional Chinese architecture is in a battle with modern/western methods. He has taken on the task of bring back and ensuring that the time tested style and concepts of Chinese architecture are used. I did find his comment, “Winning the Pritzker Prize has given people more confidence to like my work.” very interesting. He seems to be implying that people were unsure of whether or not to like his work because of his style and emphasis. Regardless, I hope to see more of his designes used in China.
